Spiced Takuan

 

This ushered in the golden era of this year’s blooms. 

While Sea Horses did flourish first, my Spiced Takuan

is the first official bloom of my collection reboot.

I acquired it last year in a 4-in pot and was taken aback 

by its bold golden appearance.

I acquired this as a gift from the SDES Mother’s Day Show 

and made it the central part of my collection.

With a year past since its acquisition, it thrives abundantly.

Moving Outdoors

Moved plants outside onto racks and some hanging in pots.

Growing from Seeds

 

I acquired some seeds and decided to try out growing epiphyllums from its earliest 

stage.  To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would succeed, but I got the seedling trays, 

humidity domes, UV lights, and even the heat mats, to improve my chances.  

I was very happy to see the first of many sprout, and am eager for more.

The collection grows… the cuttings have started to root,

and I’ve acquired some seedlings (middle racks). 

 I won’t know what the seedlings will look like for many years,

 but when the day comes, it will all be worth it, I hope.

Potted 1st Batch of Cuttings

First batch of cuttings that I potted to begin the rooting process.  There will be more to come.  This early stage in propagation is always filled with hope and anticipation, hope that they develop strong roots and anticipation for the blooms far in the future.

Return to Epis and Rebuilding

 I moved and lost my previous collection of epiphyllums.  Took a while for me to get settled and unfortunately have less open backyard space to work with this time around, but definitely a challenge I’ll figure out over time.  

I ordered rooted cuttings to get myself back into this long forgotten hobby and passion and purchased racks from Target and various materials from different online sources to help with my return.
